Welcome to Ber-Gust Farms!

Sheep

Ber-Gust Farms is located in the northwest Ohio village of Waynesfield.  We are close to I-75, half way between Dayton and Toledo. We have a heritage of practicing all-natural farming methods and old fashion animal husbandry. We truly care about the land and animals that the Good Lord has us taking care of while we are on earth. While looking through our web site, you will find that we are a diverse and somewhat self-sufficient farm.  We have dairy cows for milking and breeding stock, Jacob sheep for wool, bees for honey, more produce that you can perserve, jams and jellies, fruit, poultry and eggs, heritage breed turkeys, and home-made soap to name just a few of the items we offer. Please enjoy our site, e-mail us with any questions, and please remember, we are a working farm, so watch your step, animals roam free here.

Why the Name Ber-Gust?

Ber-Gust Farms was started in 1992 in Waynesfield, Ohio. We had decided that we didn't want our children to attend junior high school in the city, so we went looking for a place in the country. Luck would have it, we found a nice 15 acre parcel, with a nice house that we could afford. We both were drawn to rural living because of our Grandparents. We both only knew one set of our respective grandparents, but boy did they have a great impact on us.

Joanie's grandmother BERnice, loved her garden and took great pride in her flowers. Big, bright and beautiful stands of flowers dotted her yard. She passed this love of flowers to her granddaughter. She also taught Joanie the fine art of candy making, jam and jelly making, and the unconditional love that it takes to be a wife and raise a family.

Rick's grandparents, Alvin and AuGUSTA, lived on a small farm in Illinois. Rick learned produce growing from his grandpa, raising it using organic methods long before the term became popular. Along with growing produce, the farm had pigs, cattle and chicken, which Rick learned to care for.

You may now have guessed, the farm name came from a combination of our grandma's names. They both had a trendous influence in our lives growing up. Unfortunately, we both were very young when our grandparents "retired" so we did not spend as much time with them as we would have liked. However, they are with us every day. Their strength, their faith and their values are an important part of us.
